Legion, the Lead launching Levithan

back in 2016 Legion was the 3rd most popular titan (although I can’t find anything about his popularity now) and he is my highest level titan along with my most used. it is beyond fun to mow down enemies with this big gunned behemoth, but he is definitely the slowest titan in the game but that doesn’t mean you can’t get aggressive while using him.

what to watch out for

when playing as Legion, you may notice that you will either dominate a titan or dominate you there isn’t really an in-between other than with other Legions. What should you do against other titans? first I would recommend reloading the second you get out of combat, the mini-gun you use takes ages to reload and is your only source of damage. Second, remember to switch fire modes, when in the long-range mode you have perfect aim, and if you are good enough you can out damage a Northstar who is sniping you. Third know when to spin up your gun, you can only fire if you are spun up which you can do by holding fire, holding aim, or using your barrel shield, if you hear an enemy titan approaching spin up before they even get to you so you can start dealing damage to them immediately. Fourth power shot pesky pilots, your power shots will one-shot pilots so use your close-range power shot to delete them off of your screen.

how to deal with specific titans

  • Ion – keep spun up and keep aiming at them but don’t fire at their vortex shield, wait for them to put the shied down then tap fire
  • Scorch – when you see a scorch charging at you start backing up but keep firing, once they get to you and put their flame shield up dash away from them
  • Northstar – go into long rang mode on your gun and move unpractically while fighting, they will likely run away but don’t chase after them unless you are already close to them because they will theater trap you and get free damage
  • Ronin – keep your distance as best you can and practice your aim to wipe Ronins out, also wait to but your barrel shield up until they use their arc wave so you can still be protected from them
  • Tone – don’t fight them while they have their particle wall up, go around it or through it then you can shred them
  • Legion – shoot em, that’s it
  • Monarch – Shoot em and if you are doomed make sure they don’t execute you because they will get a large boost

wrap up

there is of course a lot more that could go into this that I can’t fit into this blog, but you’ll figure it out in time. Good luck!

Frontier Defense

Frontier Defense is a multiplayer game mode for titanfall 2, but unlike most of its other game modes where your main threat is other players in this game mode you only fight off computer-controlled waves of enemies while defending a main objective. Frontier Defense has a separate progression system from the main game, the more you use a certain titan in frontier defense the higher its aegis rank will be giving your titan more passives, therefore, making them more powerful. It is important you utilize each of your titans’ strengths and remember their weaknesses.

Before you even start frontier defending

Before you start you will choose your titan and will not be able to change after the first wave, choose wisely and work with your team. You don’t want to have a full team of only Ronins, your team will be able to do good damage but not take much in return so you will likely lose. You don’t want an entire team of only Legions, you’ll be able to take damage and deal damage yourself, but you won’t be mobile enough to take care of threats quickly and will likely get overrun. I would suggest having a maximum of 2 of the same titan, but this isn’t law or anything, if you feel like messing around with some friends by all going Ion, do it! If you want to play Tone and another player already picked her don’t yell at them to play another titan, talk to them to see if they could play a different titan or play a different titan yourself.

The Armory

While fighting the enemy waves you will get money for killing infantry and titans, you can also get bonus money by finishing the wave, being wave MVP(deal most damage), not dying that wave and by not letting the harvester take damage. In between waves you can spend this money at the armory to buy various things.

  • Amped Weapons (100) – Applied instantly: increases firepower for all Pilot (but not Titan) weapons. Cheap, but the effect ends if you’re killed. The weapon dropped when you die will remain amped and can be picked up.
  • Amped Battery (400) – Applied instantly: equips a special orange battery that can bring Titans out of the Doomed state, and provides more Health and Shield than a regular Battery. Can be used on your own or friendly Titans. Seems to restore 2,500 Health(one full bar) and fully restores Shields. It will restore Shields first, and any remaining energy goes to health. If Shields are full, it restores 5,000 health (two full bars).
  • Arc Trap (650) – Deployed manually: a recharging trap that stuns infantry and slows Titans within its area of effect when triggered. Has a short recharge cycle between uses. Can be picked up and redeployed if desired. There is no limit on the number of arc traps that can be placed by each pilot.
  • Sentry Turret (1,200) – Deployed manually: a sentry turret that shoots down any enemies it sees. Destroyed turrets can be repaired and reactivated by interacting with them. Turrets can be picked up and redeployed if desired. Each pilot is limited to two turrets.
  • Nuke Rodeo (500) – Activated manually: when Rodeoing an enemy Titan, you’ll be prompted to Nuke Rodeo. This overrides the standard Rodeo and injects a Core Overload Grenade (essentially a modified) into the Titan; this causes it to explode after a short delay, whilst the activating pilot is launched clear as if Ejecting. Multiple uses can be held at once, and are not lost if you are killed.
  • harvester shield booster: (1,200) – Activated manually: immediately restores the Harvester’s shield to 100% and makes it invulnerable for a few seconds.

What to watch out for

After you finish the 1st wave you will be able to call down your titan and you’ll likely be in your titan for most of the waves. But not only are you stronger than what you are in the base game but you’re going to have to fight more enemies at once and fight some specialized enemies in this game mode.

Special enemies only in frontier defense

  • Mortar Spectres deploy in fireteams of 4 and act in much the same role as Mortar Titans, and are able to deploy Hard Cover on Hard and above.
  • Stalkers are unarmed; they will simply march towards the Harvester and explode. Upon taking damage, they will start sprinting in intervals and may do so even if they aren’t attacked. They will also explode if stepped on by a Titan. They are usually unarmed but are equipped with EPG on Hard and above.
  • Ticks may also spawn, both in Drop Pods and deployed from Reapers.
  • Grunts will additionally spawn with a much wider variety of weaponry not seen in regular gameplay, such as the Charge Rifle and MGL on Hard and above.
  • Shield-Captain Grunts will also spawn alongside their regular brethren, using their Particle Shields to protect their squad from incoming fire. However, they only spawn on Master and Insane difficulty. Plasma Drones will attack in packs of four or five, sweeping through and making attack runs on the Harvester.
  • Cloak Drones can be annoying by cloaking enemy units (including titans) underneath them.
  • Sniper Titans may be deployed to suppress players and snipe at the Harvester from afar, based on Tone and Northstar.
  • Arc Titans utilize the Ronin chassis, along with all his abilities.
  • Nuke Titans utilize the Legion chassis and spawn with a shield.
  • Mortar Titans utilize the Tone chassis, albeit equipped with the indirect-fire-capable Quad Rocket. Mortar Titans have their health significantly reduced, possibly to compensate for rodeo changes.
  • Aside from their specialized variants, regular Legions, Northstars, Ions, Scorch, Tone, Ronin, and Monarch will all spawn as standard Titans. However, they do not utilize their abilities as effectively as their specialized counterparts. Scorch Titans, however, are very effective and will accurately aim their Thermite Launcher and abilities without remorse.

that’s it

The Man, The Myth, The Mikey

I didn’t play TitanFall 2 when it first came out. I remember playing the first TitanFall when it first came out and loving it. But when the second one came out I didn’t even know about it (learn a little about that here) and when my friend told me about a second TitanFall I was a little skeptical. I thought TitanFall was going to turn into one of those games where they get a new game every 2 or 3 years. But I was wrong, it only had the 2 main games and 2 spinoffs that expanded the world a little bit. But I’m getting sidetracked, my friend bought me a copy of TitanFall 2 on October 6th, 2018, and fell in love with it. Mikey is that friend who gave me a copy of TitanFall 2, he threw it (literally) at me a Steak n’ Shake. I didn’t know he was going to be at the steak n’ shake, he didn’t know I was going to be there either. He was planning to give me the game during school, but it was probably better he gave it to me on a weekend outside of school. It could have gotten damaged, lost, or stolen. Now I have over 200 hours into the game, I am generation 11 (basically prestige 11 in a Call of Duty game) and spend about 50 dollars on buying the special edition, on extra cosmetics, and a bit more on buying the game for my other friends. All of this because my cool-ass friend bought me this game from a garage sale. Thank you so much Mikey for being cool and introducing me to the frontier.

The Spitfire, The Devotion, and My Unending Rage

The Spitfire

When playing as a pilot, movement is everything, you have low health and can die easily. So keep moving right? Well, most people would think that, but… there’s a sizeable group of players who don’t quite understand that. The Spitfire is an LMG that has a large clip of ammo, deals way too much damage, and has perfect accuracy if you stand still. This is the only gun in this game that I actually hate, some guns I dislike because it’s a bit too slow or takes too much skill to use (skill that I don’t have), but the spitfire is the most brain-dead thing in this game. A gun that incentives you to stand still, in a movement shooter, stand still and movement shooter are words that do not go together in a sentence. It’s even worse when going against a spitfire user camping (a player who stays in one spot) who is using Cloak or A-wall. You cannot see a Cloak who is staying perfectly still and most spitfire campers will go in a corner so you can’t even get behind them if they are using A-wall. It’s so sad because if this weapon didn’t exist Titanfall 2 would be a perfect game.

The Devotion

The other LMG, the Devotion, is very fun to use although it is a little underpowered. The longer you fire the devotion the faster it fires. So at first, it fires slowly, but after shooting for 5 seconds or so it’ll be completely spraying bullets. So the idea is you spot an enemy, run towards them while holding the fire button, and then boom they are dead, you throw party have a drink or 5, text your EX because you are drunk, everything works out fine, right? Not quite, due to its rather small clip size of only 55 bullets meaning you need to reload after firing for short while.

My unending rage

You wanna know what gun has a larger, larger clip size that would be more suited for the devotion. The goddamn spitfire, the clip is 80 bullets. that is 68.75% larger than the devotion’s clip. Which gun should have a bigger clip? a pinpoint accurate gun that can kill pilots in a few shots and requires no skill and actually discourages using the moment mechanics. Or an inaccurate gun that encourages you to charge in firing and hoping you hit some shots but is still fun as heck to use. In my opinion, the devotion should have a much larger clip along with a damage buff (an increase in power) and the spitfire should be removed from all of existence along with its users, or just nerfed (a decrease in power) I guess.

Getting started with Titanfall 2

How to start playing Titanfall 2

Step 1: Play the Tutorial

Even if you have played countless hours of other first-person shooters I would still suggest that you play the tutorial, it teaches you the mechanics of the game and introduces you to the game’s world.

Step 2

When you are done with the tutorial you can either play the campaign or jump into multiplayer. I would suggest that you eventually play the campaign because it is a total blast but this guide will assume that you are looking to play multiplayer.

Step 3: Choosing a pilot ability

one of the first things you will need to do before getting into multiplayer is making a pilot loadout. here I will explain all of the tactical abilities here.

Cloak

Cloak makes you nearly invisible when used, but if you take damage or attack you will become visible again. If you want to use this I would suggest you use the kit low profile so your trail from wall running and jumping is hidden.

Pulse Blade

When you use Pulse Blade you throw a knife, when the knife lands it reveals nearby enemies to you and your teammates. If you throw the pulse blade at an enemy pilot or light infantry it will instantly kill them.

Grapple

The Grapple will pull you forward and in the direction, the grapple landed, the Grapple has 2 charges. By using the Grapple on the floor, a wall, or any other object you can “slingshot” yourself by canceling the ability early and keeping your momentum. You can pull pilots or light infantry by grappling them, and you can pull yourself towards an enemy titan for an easy rodeo by grappling them.

Stim

When Stim is used it greatly increases your speed and also increases your health regeneration. Stim is perfect for rushing enemies due to it making you harder to hit. I would suggest using a shotgun with stim but the choice is ultimately up to you.

A-wall

When this ability is used you throw out a small curved wall that can be shot out of from one side. This ability is good if you want to take down a Titan with a charge rifle or an archer. The wall only works one way, no matter what team you are on.

Phase Shift

When Phase Shift is used you temporarily can’t take any damage, but you can deal any damage yourself. This ability is perfect for getting yourself out of a bad situation. remember to reload while you are shift and remember that you leave a short trail when you first use phase shift.

Holo-pilot

When you use this ability is used you send a fake pilot that mimics the action you were doing when you send it out. The fake pilot can only get hit once before it vanishes or it vanishes after a short time. This ability has 2 charges.

Step 4: The Titans

There are 6 different Titans in Titanfall 2, I will go over a basic overview of all of them, showcasing their strengths and weaknesses along with some of my own thoughts on them.

ION

Ion | Titanfall Wiki | Fandom

Ion will be the only titan you will have unlocked when you begin playing. Ion has medium health and medium speed along with a splinter rifle, a Rapid single-fire energy rifle with the ability to leverage the Ion’s central energy system to fire 3 deadly shots at once. ION’s abilities and alternate fire for her main gun all cost energy to use, a good ion can use her energy effectively and be a menace to enemy titans. Her abilities are laser shot, tripwire, and vortex shield and her core is Laser core.

SCORCH

Scorch | Titanfall Wiki | Fandom

Scorch has a large health pool but is slow and is equipped with a T-203 thermite launcher, a single fire cannon of fire that when the shots land somewhere (or on someone) it will leave a small area of fire that can deal damage over time. Scorch’s abilities are firewall, Incendiary trap, and thermal shield, and his core is Flame core.

NORTHSTAR

Northstar | Titanfall Wiki | Fandom

Northstar has a small amount of health but is fast and is equipped with a plasma rail gun. The plasma rail gun normally deals a low amount of damage but if you hold down alt-fire or look down the sights it will get more accurate and deal more damage. The Northstar is THE sniping titan, use her if you want to damage enemies from afar. Her abilities are cluster missile, VTOL hover, and tether trap and her core is Flight core.

RONIN

Ronin | Titanfall Wiki | Fandom

Ronin has a small amount of health but is extremely maneuverable and uses a Leadwall shotgun and a titan-sized sword. Ronin’s playstyle is based on hitting and running, he can deal a lot of damage in short bursts, but can’t take much damage himself. His abilities reduce the amount of damage you take and can secure the kill on an enemy titan. His abilities are arc wave, phase shift, and sword block, his core is Sword core.

TONE

Tone | Titanfall Wiki | Fandom

Tone has a medium health pool and has medium speed and uses a 40MM tracker cannon. Tone is medium to sometimes long-range, but her main damage doesn’t come from her main gun. Every time you land a hit with her main fire it will put a counter on the enemy titan you hit, when you put 3 counters on an enemy titan you can fire a barrage of rockets at them. This makes tone not deal much damage at first but after a short time fighting, you can deal a big burst of damage. Tone’s abilities are tracking rockets, sonar lock, and particle wall, her core is Salvo core.

LEGION

Legion | Titanfall Wiki | Fandom

Legion has a large health pool but is slow and equipped with a Predator cannon, a mini-gun with a very large clip size. To fire Legion’s gun you need to have it revved up, to do this you need to either fire and he will rev it up or you can aim and he will rev it up without firing. Legion excels at defending areas with his Predator cannon but can have trouble advancing or retreating. His Predator cannon can also be used for close range to medium range in its normal mode, but using the ability: mode switch can make him dangerous from a range but not as much of a threat close up. The Legion has the abilities power shot, mode switch, and gun shield, his core is Smart core.

MONARCH

Monarch in Stone Gray camo | Titanfall, Robots concept, Robot concept art

Monarch by default has medium health and average speed and uses a XO16A2 chain gun. Monarch is the most complex Titan, one Monarch may stay back supporting their team while another might run in and tear apart the enemy. The reason why Monarch can have such diverse play styles is because of her cores. rather than dealing a large amount of damage in a short time like all the other Titans, her core gives her a permanent boost. But due to this, the monarch is the weakest when you first call her in but can be the strongest titan if you can keep her alive. Her cores deserve can’t be described in short here and probably deserves their own post (wink wink). the Monarch’s abilities are rocket salvo, rearm, and energy siphon, her core is Upgrade core.

Step 5

It looks like at this point you are ready to get into an actual game! Press play and pick what game mode you want to play. I would suggest that you play Attrition first to get a feel for all of the mechanics and see what you like and don’t like but I would stay away from live fire and coliseum until you get a good feel for the game

Step 6

That’s it!
Remember to try different game modes, guns, abilities, and titans and use the ones you have the most fun with!

Titanfall 2, A overshadowed masterpiece

First-person shooters, when people say video game a first-person shooter or FPS for short, may pop into mind. Call of Duty, Counter-Strike; Global Offensive (CSGO), Rainbow Six Siege are all very popular FPSs that dominate the market. All similar to each other, they have guns and you shoot the bad guys. They all do something slightly different to each other though, Rainbow Six Siege and CSGO are slower than Call of Duty, and you have to plan out what you are going to do. Call of Duty is a little faster than these games, but what if you want faster? You wanted the scorestreaks from Call of Duty to look like kid’s toys? You may think that a game like this doesn’t exist, or if it does exist it doesn’t execute it well. It does exist and (in my opinion of course) it executes it perfectly… Titanfall 2

Titanfall™ 2 Standard Edition
cover art for titanfall 2

TitanFall 2, you may not even recognize the name of this game, this game has everything you could ever want: sleek gameplay, guns that are all fun to use, movement that makes Call of Duty feel like you are running in syrup, oh and I almost forgot to mention, giant robots that you can control and destroy your enemies with. You may be wondering “how did I miss this game? Where do I get it? Did it release recently or something?” Well, hold your horseshoes and let me talk. This masterpiece of a game was released on October 28, 2016, almost 5 years ago (as of writing this) it was released on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC and people still play it, most games lose their base player base 3 years or less after release (there are exceptions of course). The reason TitanFall 2 failed commercially is due to its little to no marketing and it was released between Battlefield 1 (Oct 18th, 2016) and Call of Duty; Infinite Warfare (Nov 4th, 2016). With these two games releasing before Christmas meant that a parent would likely buy one of these for their child, but due to TitanFall 2 not getting any ads it didn’t sell as well as the other two games. But all of that is beside the point because TitanFall 2 is fun as heck.
