Why Breath of the Wild is a musical masterpiece!

Breath of the Wild

As of the time I’m writing this blog, I’m about halfway through my first-ever playthrough of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. I’m not even done with the game yet and I can already say that a lot of love and passion was put into this incredible work. The open world is fun to explore, I love the challenge of beating up stronger monsters, and the story is oh-so epic. I will say, however, that there is one more thing about this game that I love above everything else, and y’all know what I’m talking about. Here’s why I think that Breath of the Wild’s soundtrack is a musical masterpiece.

Calm, yet exciting…

If you read my post about Minecraft, then you would know that I said the music is “able to capture the essence of adventure while sounding so peaceful at the same time.” It’s the same thing for BOTW (that’s how I’ll say Breath of the Wild for this blog), although the way it’s done is a bit different. For example, in Minecraft, there’s usually a soft track playing in the background. There are no action themes for fighting any mobs. However, when you’re fighting a Guardian in BOTW, a light action theme will play, and it will send shivers down you’re spine. It’s the same thing for other monsters in the game, although the bigger ones get some slightly louder action themes.

As for the more atmospheric music, it is so dang emotional. I remember running to my first ever Sheikah Tower and its theme music played. I seriously let out a tear at how beautiful it is. As you’ve climbed the tower, a faint, but memorable melody will play. It gives you the feeling that you’ve accomplished another major step in your journey, and you can now rest for a bit. It’s the same thing for the stables you bump into every now and then. An accordion will play another faint but memorable melody and you’ll feel at ease.

A delightful experience.

BOTW is a fantastic game. Does it have some flaws here and there? Yes, but it makes up spectacularly with its greater parts, especially the music. Playing this game has so far been an amazing experience and I can’t wait to see and hear what else this game has to offer me.
